A Note About What Not to Bring to College

With seemingly every major department and big-box store currently having sales catering to college students, it's pretty easy to get wrapped up in all the excitement and, well, stuff that comes with starting a new academic year.

One of the biggest challenges, however, can be keeping some perspective on what not to bring to school. After all, with space and money in short supply for most students, deciding what to leave behind (or what not to purchase in the first place) can be just as important as figuring out what to pack:

  • "The Ultimate College Packing List" also has a small section on the bottom about what not to pack.
  • "What Clothes Should I Bring to College?" describes how to figure out which clothes to bring -- and which ones to leave behind.
  • Perhaps most importantly: Don't bring anything your school has said they won't allow. Because even though you think no one will know that your fridge uses more watts than the school says is okay, everyone will realize what's up when you're the one who keeps causing the electricity to go out in the building.
